Welcome to my home on the web!

I like to think of this as my online lab for practicing, talking about, and studying 21st century skills. I've got parts of the website for my classes, places for teachers, and some space for my ongoing reflections. Drop me a line if you find this useful or have a question. Thanks for stopping by.

RCX Programming

Mr. Irving: Can you recommend software for programming the Lego RCX that works with Windows Vista? Unfortunately RCX Code, the software supplied with our original Mindstroms set, does not. Thanks, David Allan Lititz, PA

Hi David. We're almost

Hi David. We're almost neighbors. Can you tell me what kind of programming environment you're looking for? Does it have to be graphical like Mindstorms or Robolab? Or can it be text-based. That will help me answer your question. Thanks for reading and commenting!

A GUI might be easier to use

A GUI might be easier to use but text would probably be okay too. The main programmer will be my 11 year old son and if hes has to learn more and work harder to make the RCX function that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Lego Robotics / Microworlds Programming

Bob, Well...Darn it: the standards got to me. In NJ there is nothing in the standards for programming in the elementary grades. So... No more Microworlds, No more LegoLogo Robotic programming with self made Robots. I shed a tear, but that's the government at work. Carry on!! and keep the faith. Thanks for the comment...

Bruce, and sorry to hear about the demise of robotics there. Can you sneak them in under some STEM-type standards? There's more than programming to robotics, as you know. Engineering, physics, math? Or could you do an after-school FLL program?

btw, nice featuring of student work on your web pages.
