School's out. No wait, it's in...

Now that school is finished, I'm ramping up my own learning. Taking a grad course from San Diego State University online: Advanced Teaching with Technology. So far, we've had one chat, gone over Google Reader and how to set that up (review for me), and started reading The Project Based Learning Handbook from Buck Institute of Education. So far, the book looks very cool, and is aimed at middle and high school teachers, so will become an indispensable resource.

What I like about it is that it's standards-based, uses what they call a "driving question" (I'm used to "essential question", but same thing), and is packed full of all kinds of practical advice. It's obvious the authors have actually taught middle and high school!

My class has people from the US, Trinidad and Tobago, Lebanon (not Lebanon, PA), and elsewhere, and about half seem to be K12 teachers, some from higher ed, and some from adult ed/online learning/instructional design. So a very nice mix. You learn as much from your fellow students, I find.

We used Adobe Connect for the chat, and I was impressed with the nice layout, how smoothly it ran, and the multi-approach: chat, slides, screencast, notes, all at once. Great for a distractible guy like me.
